The Discipline of Electrical Engineering has a blend of teaching and research activities pertaining to both electronics engineering and electrical engineering. The EE faculty share a common vision of imparting high-quality teaching led by top-class research. We firmly believe that research and teaching must maintain a symbiotic relationship to keep the academic atmosphere fresh and responsive to the rapidly changing scientific and technological landscape. We strive to provide a curriculum that has the solidity of time-tested ideas on which a student can build a strong foundation. At the same time, we are also acutely aware of the need to incorporate flexibility into the curriculum that allows a student to explore avenues that appeal to that student.
The discipline currently offers BTech, MTech and PhD programmes in various areas. The diversity of academic interests is reflected in the breadth of theoretical and laboratory courses that we offer and the research activities of the faculty members. The EE discipline aims to impart a strong hands-on flavor to the courses, and it, therefore, places great emphasis on the laboratory component, internships, and projects. Most of our BTech and PhD students carry out summer internships at reputed academic institutes and industries in India and abroad. Approximately 20% of these internships are in foreign universities in the US, Europe, and South East Asia.
The discipline has a healthy mixture of young and experienced faculty members, all of whom display high levels of enthusiasm and dedication. We take our teaching very seriously Apart from teaching and research; the faculty members are actively involved in organizing technical workshops, short courses in focus areas and visits of scholars to create an environment conducive to experiential learning.
Research interests of the faculty include microelectronics and VLSI, signal processing and biomedical engineering, image and video processing, computational photography, photonic sensing, nanophotonics, power electronics, renewable energy sources, and electrical machines. The research is funded by various Indian funding agencies such as the SERB, MHRD, DEity and as well as international agencies such as the UKIERI and the Royal Academy of engineering UK.
The fourth edition of the workshop named Photonics for Health, Atmosphere, Safety and Education (PHASE 2023) is to be held in IITGN during 30 – 31 March 2023.
