Course Title: Introduction to Electrical Systems

Course contents:

Electric circuit analysis – Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s laws, loop and node analyses, source transformation, star-delta conversion, network theorems to DC circuits; Natural and forced responses to DC excitation – RL, RC and RLC circuits; Sinusoidal steady state analysis – phasors, network theorems, power; Polyphase circuits; Frequency response analysis.

Magnetic field – Basic laws, magnetic materials, BH characteristics, hysteresis and eddy current losses. Transformers – single phase and auto-transformers. Electro-mechanical energy conversion systems – DC machines, AC Machines, Special machines.

Power system – generation, transmission, distribution, costing of electricity.
